PackageHandler at the Swiss Federal Archives

The Swiss Federal Archives are responsible for archiving appropriate material from all of the federal offices and agencies, such as for example, on NEAT, the procurement of the F/A18, etc. Until recently, controlling material received, i.e. checking for correctness and completeness, was done by hand: a time-consuming and nearly impossible task. A decision was reached to simplify this task in an electronic way. Now a metafile is set up when material is delivered to the Archives with all of the links to the reference data. This file is structured and consists of directory systems, positions, dossiers, files, etc. It can be up to 200MB large.

Inventage developed PackageHandler for the Swiss Federal Archives. This tool reads the files and provides the user with a wide variety of validations and support functionalities, such as statistics, analyses, Google-like search, random samples, etc.

This solution was developed as a stand-alone Eclipse RCP application. The receiving file is saved in an EML format and processed internally as an object model using Eclipse EMF. All reports are prepared using Eclipse BIRT.
